Who is this guy?

Howdy friends,

I’d like to take a moment and introduce myself. I am Cody Logan, the Planting Pastor of our new United Methodist Church here in the greater Highland Lakes area.

I grew up in Humble Texas, a small town in the Houston area. I studied philosophy and government at the University of Texas in Austin, and then went to seminary at the Orlando Florida campus of Asbury Theological Seminary where I received my Master’s in Divinity.

After seminary, I moved to the Buda/Kyle area outside of Austin where I served four years as a Youth Director and Ministry Assistant at the Journey United Methodist Church. Between 2018 and 2022, I was Pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Seadrift, Texas. In 2022 I moved to Marble Falls where I was Associate Pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls. July 1, 2023, I was appointed as Pastor for new UMC Church Plant in the Marble Falls area.

Growing up I attended the First United Methodist Church of Humble, Texas, but it was really my experience at the Texas Wesley Foundation campus ministry at UT where my faith came to life. Because of my debate experience and study of philosophy, I started my campus ministry experience out more as a heckler than a part of the community. Frankly, telling my parents I was at a worship service on Thursday nights was a clever way to keep them from asking me what I was doing the other 6 nights of the week. However, in that environment, for the first time, I experienced a community that was deeply filled with the Holy Spirit. I was literally LOVED into the church. No matter how much I resisted, the grace and love of Jesus that overflowed form that community melted my hardened heart.

My call into ministry was a move from my intention to fix the world by myself, to a desire to share with anyone I could, what God had blessed me with - freedom for my soul. This is what lies at the heart of my approach to ministry “a great blessing in my experience with God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the grace of Jesus.” I want to share that same blessing with others.

If a relationship with Christ moves someone, I want to help them understand that relationship and experience it at a greater depth. However, if a person is not ready for a relationship with Christ, I still want to share the beauty of this world with them. And when I see something in this beautiful world that’s broken, I hope to be a part of the healing process. I want to be a part of fixing the broken. So that’s my faith story in a nutshell.

In terms of who I am as a person - music is my passion: classical music and jazz. I experience most of life through the filter of music: its philosophical implications, its sonic textures and beauty, its meditative and calming properties, and the general release of steam from the soul it allows. I have played guitar since my youth, but don’t particularly dig playing music in the church. Playing is my personal act of worship, and I am less interested in using it to create an atmosphere to promote worship, and more interested in just letting loose with it. And let’s face it, that’s not usually conducive in a church atmosphere. But man, when I hear Jimi Hendrix start to just play (and I don’t mean one of his songs, I’m talking about when he just starts to let loose and PLAY) that’s the kind of thing that starts to get my heart excited with all the potential of God and a relationship flooded with the presence of the Holy Spirit. So, music is definitely my thing. I love surfing, hiking, and being out in creation. I also do woodworking and I love animals; but music - that’s my thing. So, if you're ever wondering how to get me talking, just tell me what 5 albums you would take on your desert island, and trust me, I’ll have thoughts to share.

I’d love an opportunity to hear your story and learn about the unique beauty and gifts God created in you. I’d like to help you find the best way to bless the world around you with your potential. So, reach out, let’s get together and begin exploring how the Lord is looking to bless and use you.
